Hospital Stay

I loved all the nurses (minus one) at Sarah Bush. Everyone was so nice and helpful and supportive. You truly are pampered. We were lucky to come in at the beginning of a shift and have the same delivery nurses the entire time. After Samantha was delivered, the family headed home to get some sleep and to let JM and I have some time to ourselves. I tried to sleep some, but I really just couldn't. When I look back at our stay it seems like it was longer than Tuesday all day and then Wednesday morning. For some reason Tuesday kind of feels like 2 days. We had several visitors and I had intended on getting their pictures with Samee but only accomplished a few pictures. I napped during the afternoon on Wednesday while JM ran into work for a few hours. There were a few problems he had to go fix and Aunt Joy came and sat with me for awhile. That evening JM got back and crashed. He hadn't slept since Monday night and it was now Wednesday evening. He woke up around 8:30 and I had run out and get us supper. Originally our plan was for me to eat at the hospital for lunch (b/c he had to run into work) and then he would get us Steak N Shake for supper. His work kind of got in the way of that but he was still able to get us supper, which really hit the spot. I fed Samee one more time and then the nurses said they would keep her in the nursery until she needed fed. We had asked that she be kept in the room as much as possible but it was time for some of her tests and I think they realized I hadn't slept much. It worked out well and we were able to really sleep. They brought her in when she was hungry and let her stay for awhile and then took her back out.

Thursday morning Dr. Meyer came in and asked me how I felt. Since I had finally shut my body down and relaxed my body was able to "reboot". I felt like I had been hit by big truck...and I told her so. He just kind of grinned a little and said "yea I heard about the delivery". He told me that if I wanted to we could go home that day or wait until Friday. We wanted to go ahead and go home and be in our own house and even though the nurses were helpful it seemed like everytime we would calm down, settle-in, or nod off, another one would come in. I was shocked at how bad every muscle in body hurt. My arms, biceps, and hurt like Hell. At first I had used the hand grips but then they wanted me to put my hands behind my legs to help pull/push. Every muscle was just wound up. I made sure to get up out of bed and move around. I didnt' notice all this on Tuesday because I never had relaxed to let everything set in.

JM was awesome. The labor I think was a little intense for him too. I know from some of his ER visits that it's really horrible to have your spouse be in so much pain and not be able to do anything about it. The look in his eyes said it all. JM at first didn’t go over to the crib where they were cleaning her off. He was more concerned about me at first and then went over. I was extremely touched. He stayed by my side the whole time until everything was over. Then we got to meet our baby together.

There is a picture of the 3 of us on my parent's camera but I haven't gotten ahold of it yet.  This is as close to "newborn" as I have right now.
