40 Weeks and a Day

"40 weeks and a day! What is going on Momma?"  Is the nurses first comment once we get in the room.  It was ok. I love this one nurse and I always hope I get her when I go in.  I had JM come with me this time just in case. I had this "fear" that I would get there and be 4cm and they might want to keep me.

They weighed me first, of course, and I was like 'whoa, I lost 2 pounds in 4 days?!".  JM goes 'aren't you supposed to gain weight?".  The nurse just giggles and tells us that it's a great sign because a lot of gals drop a few pounds soon before going into labor.  In the little doctor's room, she also tells us that since I was "amost 3" last time, Dr. Meyer would probably strip the membranes if we asked.  After explaing what this involved and the purpose behind it, I thought JM was going to jump out of the chair.  Anything to get his baby into the world quicker suits him just fine. =)  I then mentioned that on Wednesday when Dr. Benson checked me I wanted to crawl out of my skin b/c it hurt so bad.  She just giggled and said" welll.... Dr. B has some pretty big hands.  I wouldn't want him to check me either!".  She also mentioned that Dr. Meyer was really good at stripping membranes.  Ok... sounds good to me. I mean, while you're there you might as well..right?

So Dr. Meyer comes in and measures and then asks if we have any questions.  We mention the membrane thing to which he smiles and goes " you're ready huh?".  Strip away Strip-Master (I wanted to say, but I didn't b/c I didn't think of it until now AND b/c secretly inside I was praying as hard as I could that I would be more prepared and it wouldn't hurt too bad".  It actually didn't hurt AT ALL.  A little uncomfortable but not too bad. and it took less than a minute.   Dr. Meyer seemed pretty optimistic in general about the procedure so hopefully it will help us.  We also found out the specifics on the Induction on Thursday if we make it that far.

We got home this evening, JM cooked supper on the grill, and then once again took a trip around Redmon.  Not really around Redmon this time b/c there was no way I was making it.  I had this terrible pain really high in my abdomen so maybe that was a real contraction.  We got back just in time to meet Jim and Marcy.  They dropped off our new dishwasher - YEA!  It's a baby/birthday present and it will be FANTASTIC. Ours is getting older and just doesn't clean very well.

Since our walk, I've had a few small contractions but they do feel different then what I've had the last few days.  I've been trying to be up and active, walking around and picking up/cleaning.  It seems to make the contractions happen.  Though when they do come all I want to do is go curl up in my nice warm waterbed.  It's all very confusing for the brain... You keep telling yourself  "move, move, move" and then "oh God...go curl up in the fetal position".  =)  They aren't that bad but sometimes you wonder....

I'm ready for it though.  Bring it on.  I'm ready to see my baby girl.
