An Update for the Past Month

Well, where to start.  I guess maybe at Christmas break?  No, wait.  JM's Birthday. His birthday was the 14th.  My parents and I went in together on a range finder.  We had bought one back when we were in college, but after a couple of hunting seasons and moving it was broken and I think ultimately lost.  When he found out we had gotten HIM something, he wasn't too happy.  He only wanted stuff that he could use for the baby.  I didn't know that at the time we decided on the range finder b/c it had been months prior.  Oh well!  We met Mom, Dad, and Marisa at Lincoln Springs for his birthday dinner and surprised him with the range finder.  He was pretty happy. From other family, he received various gift cards and a few gifts that, for the most part, are going to be used on the baby.

Mom, Dad and Marisa came up my first weekend of break (Mom and Marisa still had to go back that next Monday and maybe Tuesday) to help paint.  They did a great job of getting the walls painted.  I will post pictures soon, I PROMISE.  Marisa also painted a few walls left in the kitchen that I was forbidden to paint.  I had told some of the gals I had started painting the kitchen and they weren't too happy.  I know you aren't supposed to paint when you're pregnant but it needed done and I got the low fume stuff.  Anyways - the kitchen had been half painted for awhile.  Not a big change in color thought. I wanted it to be a light steel gray but it turned out looking kind of blue, which is fine b/c it matches the grayish blue countertops.
That next week before I Christmas I worked my tail off on getting the laminate floor laid. I'm so PROUD of that floor.  With a little help from JM, it was finished in a few days.  It could have been quicker but there is only so much time I can spend on my knees crawling around and getting up and down.  JM had to work all week, so I wanted to surprise him by getting it done before his Christmas "break".  Successfull.  It looks SO nice and I LOVE it.  All we have to do is buy the quarter round and install it, but that won't take but an hour.

Christmas came around and we were able to spend all Christmas day with my Mom and Dad.  JM's family came in at all different times, so there wasn't a "big" celebration this year.  Mom and Dad gave us a new shower for our mater bathroom.  The master bathroom shower was in really sad shape when we moved in last May.  I immediately destructed it and we've been wanting to replace it but had more important things to deal with.  We replaced all the water pipes in the house b/c they were 3/8ths hose, which equals no water pressure.  We use the master bath for the vanities and toilet, but shower on the other end of the house in the normal bathroom.  We don't have the shower in yet, but it will be soon.  The problem is the door is smaller than a shower is wide so we have to get one that comes in pieces.  No biggie.

Grandma Kautz (Nano) talked with JM and me at our Christmas and explained that each grandchild received $500 from our Great Grandparents Frohning's estate.  Great Grandma had always wanted/loved to travel, but Nano new that we weren't really going to be traveling anytime soon so she said we could use ours on our crib!  I have ordered our crib and it is supposed to here next week.  Can't wait to put it together and get it in there!  I'm at the point now and I want that nursery settled, just in case.  I can feel the clock ticking and it's getting to me! =)

Grandma Keach gave me a BEAUTIFUL ring - unfortunately my fingers randomly swell so I am having to hold off wearing it frequently. I don't want to have it cut off - I have a friend of a friend that had to have that done.  I no longer wear my wedding rings either, which saddens me.  I've finally gotten use to that "naked" feeling and I don't check the box to make sure they are still there every day (only every other - just kidding! kind of).

Then I had a doctor's appointment the Monday after Christmas wear I had to take the gestational diabetes test.  one word - YUCK.  The nurse asked me "fruit punch or orange". I opted for fruit punch b/c I had heard that orange was pretty gross.  She poured it into a cup and told me to drink up.  When I got to the bottom and put the cup on her counter she poured the rest of the bottle in.  Ahhh, MAN!  That stuff was SO cold and so SUGARY - gag.   And of course she stands there and waits for you to finish so she start the 1 hour countdown.  So, down the hatch and I was awarded with a nice brain freeze.  ouch.   Then I had to see Dr. Benson who listened to the hearbeat, which was 144 - just like almost everytime give or take a few beats.  Then he measured, like normal, and we were at 30 cm which is right on track.  I asked if we had another sonogram before birth and I was told No.  Which quite frankly sucks.  She had been behind "schedule" on size every other time, so we are very curious to see where she's at.  Especially if my stomach measurements are now on schedule.  I have check around and it costs around $100 to get another sonogram (3-D), so we are contemplating it.  Like JM said, other people have these really neat pictures of what the baby actually looks like and they are so neat. So we are contemplating justification of the $100.

I have another appointment next Monday to get the results of the diabetes test, but if it had been positive they would have called so we're in the clear I'm sure.

Other updates: between Christmas and New Year's, JM and I started on the flooring in the dining room.  It's been a lot harder.  We pulled up the carpet which had been replaced from the original, unlike the baby's room.  This meant twice the amount of staples to pull out.  It's taking a lot longer.  But we now have about 6 rows put down and it's going to take about 19, so we're slowly but surely getting there.

I also picked up a horrible cold over break.  I've been such the "germa-phobe" at school, and over break I guess I let my gaurd down.  It had started as a head cold and then turned into what I'm guessing an ear and sinus infection.  The doctor (who was a quack and another novel in itself) said I had a "touch of bronchitis".  It all turned out ok b/c I'm not on antibiotics and that's what I needed for the infections.  However, I don't feel much better, except my ears don't each. So I'm sure its viral now - lovely!  Day 4 and still producing more snot than I thought a body was capable of.

Look for some pictures in the next couple of days. I have a few that I want to post and I need to just get the camera cable out and upload them, I just keep forgetting about it.

Stay warm everyone!
