Sleeping

Today in my email I received this little article :

Get Some Sleep!

A good night's rest may be just what your tired face is craving, but it's kind of tough to get comfortable with that basketball growing under your nightie.

A good night's rest may be just what your tired face is craving, but it's kind of tough to get comfortable with that basketball growing under your nightie at 29 weeks pregnant. So that your search for slumber isn't in vain, try to optimize your sleeping conditions. Make sure your bedroom isn't too warm or stuffy (with your metabolism racing, you're hot stuff enough). Use a body pillow or pregnancy wedge to help you find a comfy position (or just commandeer your partner's extra pillows — he can have the blankets you're kicking off), and make sure your mattress is firm — if not, have someone slip a board underneath until the baby comes. Still not catching those z's? Enjoy a light snack (no sugar or caffeine, please) or a warm bath before turning in. Relaxation exercises or some lovemaking can also relieve tension, making it less likely that you'll be tossing and turning until daybreak.

I think that it may be safe to assume that this person either A) has never been pregnant or B) was pregnant but was never blessed with the Toss & Turn Syndrome.

I was told that you make some pretty wild purchases with your 1st child.  I did in fact buy a maternity pillow.  It is shaped in a gigantic horseshoe shape with one side being much longer than the other so it can curl around and make a circle.  Now it has been pretty nice to have b/c I am a very committed "back sleeper" - VERY committed.  Even with the pillow I still wake up in the middle of the night on my back (occasionally).  It does take up a good part of the bed, but JM doesn't seem to mind too much.  Apparantly I gravitate to the middle of the bed anyways so now he can have a cool pillow against him instead of a hot body.  Anyways - back to the pillow. I do love it.

I also used to be a "very committed" sleeper.  Nothing really comes between me and my sleep.  The last week or so - not the case.  The pillow may be a cacoon of heat, causing this incredibly hot soon-to-be-mamma to get stuck to the sheets.  GROSS - must roll over to get away.  Another important thing to mention is that we have a waterbed, a BIG waterbed (California King).  Before all the waterbed haters start in - I LOVE my waterbed.  Some reasons being; 1) I can lay on my side and not have my arm go numb, 2) the house can be cold and the bed so wonderfully warm, 3) when I have a bad day, curling up in that nice, soft, warm, fantastic, beloved bed is just what I want.  I could go on but it would only require more adjectives and adverbs and we can all think of those on our own.
The waterbed has been turned down - way down - since the pregancy hormones have kicked in, so it is not as warm as it could or used to be.
Last night there was this weird tapping noise coming from somewhere in the room.  At first I thought it was Maizey or Chief with the hiccups.  So I tried to ignore it, dozed off, woke up again, and it is still happening. I convinced myself to ignore it a few more times because, like I mentioned, I am committed to sleep and do NOT want to get up.  Then I cannot stand it anymore and I get up (more like roll out) find each dog in the dark and put my hand on each one to see who has the hiccups and if he/she is ok.  No dog has the hiccups! Where in the HELL is this noise coming from?!?  Then of course the motion of rolling out of bed, kneeling on the ground, and getting back up has signalled the bladder that now would be a good time to empty.  DRAT! Weeble wobble into the bathroom - come back to bed - almost asleep - and there is that tapping again!  I never did figure out where it was coming from and when I woke up several other times that night (from crazy dreams, which don't get me started or this post will go on FOREVER if it hasn't already) I tried to go back to sleep as quickly as possible so I wouldn't hear it.

Warm bath or not - I think sleeping all the way through the night is something that will be lost for the next couple of years.  *sigh* oh well.

And I can't find the spellcheck button and I today I refuse to reread what I wrote - so I appologize for any bad grammar/wrongly spelled words.
