Father's Day Weekend

Well, it has been a week since I last blogged and it feels like only yesterday.  Where the heck is my summer going?!?!?!?! AH!

Friday during the day Samantha and I headed down to my parents house.  I was pretty proud that I loaded the camper, hooked it all up, and filled up the truck with gas with it in tow, ALL BY MYSELF, with an baby and 2 dogs in tow.  Some days I feel like Super Woman (did she have a lariat of truth ~ that I may be missing).  JM got off work a little early and met me at Mom & Dad's.  We had a pretty good weekend.  A storm rolled through and broke off another one of the trees, so JM helped Dad cut it up and pick up other limbs.  That Saturday morning I headed over to the farm because they didn't get to see Samantha the last time we were home.  Samantha is always at her best during the morning.  Not that she's "bad" in the afternoon or evening, but she is just WAY more smiley and interactive and consistently so.  Afternoons and evenings, it is hit and miss.  Of course, the weekend was hot, hot, hot, so we didn't do much outside.  Saturday evening Grandma & Grandpa Keach came down for a steak supper to celebrate Father's Day.  Samantha did really well!  I swear that Samee knows when I sit down to eat, even if she cannot see it happening, and picks that time to whine bag ~ not really crying, but not happy.  Well for our supper that night, she was a doll! She sat in her little seat and just cooed and smiled at us while we all ate.  God bless her little heart! =)
Sunday morning the entire family was up bright and early and went to the early service at Church.  Samantha hadn't really had her early morning nap so I figured she would sleep through the service.  Well, she did but not until after I had to bounce her in the back of the church.  It was fine. Some people might be embarrassed or frustrated when their baby starts to fuss in those "quiet" situations, but it really doesn't bother me.  I just smile and excuse myself and we stand in the back and just rock and swing.  Obviously if I can tell that that isn't immediately going to work, we leave the area, but usually we don't have too.  Samatha is an "on the go" baby and usually just some generally walking and bouncing solves the fussiness.
Saturday for lunch we headed to the farm for Father's Day lunch.  Samantha did pretty good there too!  She was passed around and LOVED it.
I decided at that point that I would just stay down at the Parent's house for part of the week.  JM has training the whole week down in Tennessee for work.  He is down there learning how to deal with hazardous "stuff".  Anyways... he needed clothes to go on his work trip so we headed back up to Redmon so he could pack his bag.  While we were there, he realized he didn't have any nice polo's so on our way back to my parent's we had to stop and do a little shopping.  Sam didn't do to bad with riding for that long.  She is getting a little bad about riding in the car seat unless she is sleepy.  If she is awake a toy will help for awhile and most times she looks out the back window, but it doesn't always keep her from being fussy.
On Monday I had a meeting in Decatur and Marisa also was attending because of her Ag internship.  It was our District 4 Workshop and it was VERY useful.  However, at 2 we got "the" text message.  Samantha was having nothing to do with the formula and she was NOT happy about the bottle.  Mom only had a little bit of my milk left.  So Marisa and I were able to leave early and headed home from Decatur.  Of course, when I walked in the door Samantha was being good and even smiled.  I thought Mom was going to kill her then and there, but after what she lived through during the day, sending her to Heaven at that point was worth it. =)  Apparently Samantha has forgotten that a bottle isn't that bad of the thing and screamed in her I AM SO MAD octave.  She can get really mad and convey her anger very effectively. Some might even call it the Jenness temper, depending on the company that person is in. =)

Tuesday was a good day.  She smiled all day and her Grandmother spent all day reminding her what a little turd she was. Ahhh... life is good.  On Tuesday, us girls, went down to Wal-Mart to get the tires balanced and rotated on the truck.  We meandered through Wal-Mart and boy is that dangerous.  I justify it in that I  figured it would be expensive to do the work on the truck but it was only $7.50 per tire.  That gave me "extra" money to spend since I had figured on spending it anyway.  Samantha came home with a Baby Einstein "thing".  I call it a walker without wheels, some people call it an exer-saucer.  I forget what the name was on the box.  Anyways... it was cheaper than the Fischer Price version with MUCH more toys on the ring.  I kind of wish it had the springy bottom for some bouncy but instead it has a bowl-shaped bottom that allows the thing to rock back and forth.  It also came with little stabilizers to keep it from doing it.  Samantha really liked it.  Maybe a little overwhelming at first though.  She loves the little giraffe that has rings around its neck.  She is still a little too small for it though.   Only her little toes touch the bottom, so I put a pillow underneath and she only stays in it for a little bit to prevent her legs going numb.  It's not something I can leave her in while I go do something in the other room.  She doesn't quite fill out the seat so sometimes she can through her weight forward which causes her to "bonk" her head on some random toy on the edge.  Do I speak like I know this from experience?  (That's because I am.)
Wednesday we almost went home but then decided not to drive back in the dark.  What's one more night right?  That day, we girls, went over to Flora to meet Aunt Nancy and Adam (her son and former roommate of mine) for lunch.  We got to town early to do some errands and visit Tonya Behnke (family friend and also a teacher at Mom's school).  By the time we got to the restaurant Samantha had crashed for her mid-day nap, which I thought was PERFECT! Aunt Nancy on the other hand was a little disappointed but Samantha didn't want to disappoint her Aunt Nancy.  She woke up.... hungry...and a little angry.  Though after she nursed she was happy happy happy!  Then Mom got to show off her and Samantha's newly found "trick".  Mom started singing Ol'  McDonald to Samantha when she was fussy that morning or Tuesday and Samantha LOVES it.  Not Twinkle Twinkly, not I'm a little teapot, not anything else.... Just Ol' McDonald. Samantha just grins away and does her little silent giggle.  She's just stinkin' cute, if I do say so myself.

Speaking of giggling, Mom and I were changing her diaper.  Well, I was changing and Mom was trying to get Samantha to smile.  I told Mom that she was starting to get ticklish and will try to move away from your hand when you tickle her sides or neck.  So I was doing it and we were all giggling at her as she was doing her silent smile/giggle.  Then all of a sudden she made a little noise and Mom and I were like "oh my goodness...she almost laughed!".  So I keep doing it and she did a little two noise giggle... a little  ha-ha.  And then that big toothless, full-body smile.  We've not been able to recreate that yet, but I heard it! and so did Mom so there was a witness!

Today Samantha and I decided it was probably time to head North and make sure the house was still there.  But before we left we had to try out Samantha's new swing that her Grandma had got her during our Wal-Mart trip. It is a pink Little Tykes swing that you hang outside.  Of course it's a little big but we made it work and she LOVED it.  Well, she loves being outside, she loves to swing, and she loves to sit up.  This was the perfect combination.  After we figured out how to prop her up in there so she wasn't slumped over, she swung for a good 30 minutes.  The weather was beautiful and she just swung and took it all in.  She was also pretty sober today and yesterday - not very giving with the smiles except early in the morning.  She hasn't been fussy really and does smile but tends to be complacent.  That's fine.. I can live with complacent. =)

I am going to apologize NOW for the motion sickness this video may induce.  I am not a great videographer so when you combine my lack of skill AND a swing... well... it's not good.
P.S. Don't mind the 2nd box.  It was a botched attempt to add a video and I can't remove it.

I have more videos to upload but it isn't working so maybe more later!
