The 9th Week of Sam

Friday May 14th - Thursday May 20th

The weekend was GREAT.  We stayed home for most of the weekend and just relaxed.  It rained almost the whole time so it was a great weekend to curl up and watch t.v., read a book, or watch Sam.  My parents came up Saturday to play with Sam.  As soon as Mom and Dad started talking to her she put on a show with her smiles.  Thursday night Sam slept 7 1/2 hours and on Friday she slept a little over 8!!  I was amazed.  Then Saturday evening right before Mom, Dad, and Marisa left Sam got a little crabby and was hard to put to bed.  She then went back to her 5 hour stretch and then a 2-3 hour stretch and then catnap until morning.  That was fine except she was really hard to put back to bed when she woke up.  She was still really tired she was just fighting it ... again.  I got a lot of cleaning done around the house, or at least what I thought was a lot.  I really think I just cleaned up the top layer of stuff and that little amount of cleaning made the place look more like civilization just b/c I dont' have time to clean like it should be done.  So any amount looks FANTASTIC.  Everything is relative right?

Sam is so dang cute when she gets ready to make a noise or coo when she hasn't done it very recently.  Sometimes she surprises herself!  She'll make a noise and then her eyes will get as big as they go and her eyebrows go to hairline.  Sometimes she smiles right afterwards too.  Usually once she makes one noise she makes a few more.  And just like when she concentrates on moving her tongue out and around, she furrows her eyebrows when she's trying to make that first noise.  Sometimes she'll get her mouth moving around for a few seconds before a sound squeaks out.  She's got all sorts of noises in her "vocabulary" now.

Over the weekend I've also started to get a cold so that's been a real bummer.  I had hoped to stop it before it got too bad but that didn't happen. Hello sinus drainage, Good Bye breathing.

Monday was Sam's 2 month appointment which meant shots.  I was a little nervous going into the appointment.  She weighed 10lbs 13 oz and was 22 1/8 inches long.  She had gained a little more than the "normal" b/c she's breastfed which makes any of her weight gain normal.  Confusing?  Maybe a little.  The nurse came in and gave Sam her oral vaccine.  She squirted the first of it into Sam's mouth and it seemed like she swallowed it but Sam opened her mouth and out it poured.  Then the nurse pinched her cheeks and made her mouth stay open which forces them to swallow supposedly.  Not Sam!  As soon as she let those chubby cheeks go, out came more of the stuff.  I am STILL finding sticky spots in the Sam's folds! =)
The nurse was really good with the 3 shots though.  She had 2 shots on one side and 1 on the other.  The nurse had the needles laying out and did them so fast I might have blinked twice before it was done.  She then told me I could pick Sam up and when I did she immediately stopped crying.  She didn't really cry as loud as what I thought she would.  All in all, it went pretty smooth.  I teared up a little at the very end of the last shot and when I picked her up.  I was really caught off guard with how I felt about the situation.  It was really hard to watch your child be willingly hurt and not be able to make it stop or avoid it.  I obviously know that shots are good and blah blah blah.  But its not a comfortable feeling at all.

That evening I had an FFA Alumni meeting.  Sam cried the whole time I was gone.  She would catnap for a few minutes and then wake up screaming.  I got home and tagged in for the crying match.  She had gotten herself so worked up that she would do a really big sniff every minute or so.  I had never seen/heard he do that before.  It was the weirdest thing.  She would be asleep and then just let out this little squeal that sounded so distressed and then she would just sob.  Finally I got her to stay asleep.  I could tell she didn't sleep very well during the night but she stuck to her normal schedule.  When I talked to Joy Tuesday morning, I found out that Sam had done that during the day too; just not ever few minutes.

Tuesday at Joy's Sam slept more than usual which I am blaming on the shots.  This evening Sam was extra smiley.  I love it when she's like this.  She went to bed around 8:30 and fell asleep pretty easily.  Hopefully we're in for a good night!
