How to count your baby's age:
This past Thursday was the first day of Sam's 9th week. Wednesday would be the end of her 8th week. So on Thursday I said Sam was 8 weeks old or 2 months. However, you could also say that April May 17th would be the day when Sam is 8 weeks old. March 17th to April 17th to May 17th = 2 months. For now I choose to go with the first option. So with that...the 8th week of Sam.
This past week was a crazy week. The weekend was spent with JM's family. Pam stayed at our house Wednesday through Sunday. They had plenty of time to bond and I think they did b/c Sam hardly slept! She just couldn't get enough off all the extra attention. Sunday was JM's grandparents 60th Wedding Anniversary and all the family came home for the celebration. It was great to see some of the family that we hadn't seen in awhile. And of course, the time spent was too short!
Monday was not a great day at all. Over the weekend one of our bus drivers for the school took his life. Monday morning all staff was supposed to be at the school by 7:45. Not a big deal for me I am most always there by 7:30. That Monday...nope.. not even close. I stepped into the meeting at 7:50 ~ great. But as I jumped out of my truck I hit the lock button and grabbed my school key which is always attached to my truck keys - not that morning. I wasn't going to risk my fingers trying to catch the door so I got them out of the way just in time. Thankfully the town cop was at the meeting and had my door open in less than 30 seconds. Then gave me the same lecture my husband gives me about the spare key. Speaking of the spare key ~ it was in the cup holder b/c I spilled gasoline all over it when I filled up the truck that weekend. We keep the spare tank up inside the door of the tank. I had taken the key out to wash it off and forgot to put it back in.
Fast forward to Thursday ~ 8:45 a.m. It is my 8th Grade ag class and we are finishing out the year making birdhouses. They must use all hand tools for the project. One group had a 1/4" piece they needed cut off and it was going to be very hard to hold to use the saw so I was being nice and cut it off with the table saw. I hesitated to push the small 4" by 4 1/2" piece of wood on through, it caught the blade just right and sent the piece of wood flying through the air. It then preceded to make contact with my face. More specifically it pulverized my top left lip. It instantly swelled to what I thought was gigantic proportions. I soon rethought this after another 30 minutes of swelling. The school decided I needed to go to the E.R. just in case. So I did after much convincing. They pushed and prodded on my face to make sure I didn't need any scans for broken bones. At that point I really didn't hurt at all. Fast forward 24 hours... ouch. My nose was swollen my lip was HUGE, my bottom jaw and a very sore place in it and my face was starting to bruise. For 48 hours I religiously used ice packs and by Saturday most of the bruising was gone. Sunday was even better.
As for SAM ~ she had a great 8th week. She has started cooing more and smiling in response. We spend our evenings trying to get smiles. She is in love with the flashing lights from the t.v. The lights completely captivate her. She went through a time when she stuck her tongue out when we stuck out ours. We thought it was a pretty good trick and then either she stopped doing it or we did. This week sometime though she started playing with her tongue. She would concentrate on getting her lips just where she wanted them and then sticking her tongue out. She was so cute. Frowning in frustrating and then sometimes smiling when she had her tongue out. What a goofball. Just when we thought we might be done with what we have deemed "projectile poopy" she has stepped it up a notch and is making me consider buying stock in Shout and other such stain removers for her clothes. =)
