Doctor's Appointment and Other News

On November 30th we had our "24 week" appointment a week late.  I have completed the doctor rotation and have met all 3 doctors and the APN at Sarah Bush in Mattoon.  This appointment was with Dr. Miller and I think he is my favorite.  He is really really nice, has a great sense of humor, kind of soft spoken, and he called me sweetheart. =)  I am right on schedule with the weight gain.  In the past 5 weeks, I gained less than 4 pounds, so I am averaging a little less than 1 pound per week.  At 20 weeks, they wanted me to gain 1 pound per week; so far, so good.

I was having a random "issue" with my heart pounding in my chest.  It had only happened two or three times before the appointment, but enough to slightly scare me.  It was what I think a panic attack might feel like.  Dr. Miller said that this sometimes happens during pregnancy and of course had a long name to call it.  Then he goes "This is going to sound stupid as hell, but.."  if you can't get your body to relax and calm your heart get a bowl of COLD water with ice and lower your face into it.  I must have looked shocked because he repeated his disclaimer again.  Apparently we, like all other mammals, have a certain response to cold water.  That response is to slow our heart.  I cringe at the thought of having to do it, and so far I haven't had to resort to that.  The "issue" isn't related to any strenuous activity, it just happens.  A little scary just the same.

Other News:

Deer Season:  "BBD Baby!".  Except BBD does not stand for Big Buck Down, it stands for Baby Buck Down.  My buck was a little 6 pointer, but it is still bigger than somone else's I know.  Not to name any names or anything, but I do live with him and he is the father of our child.  It was great to be able to spend the time outdoors with my dad and husband.  The time you spend out in the field with the people you love are times that you will never forget.

Homecoming at Kansas High School:  Wow, is really the only word that describes it.  The kids really get into homecoming and of course that leads to class rivalries getting a little out of hand and drama within the class itself.  Needless to say, I am extremely GLAD it is over.

Realization:  This week JM and I were relaxing infront of the fireplace and enjoying the fire when I made the comment to him " You realize we only have 3 more months of this".  We talked about how it seems like only yesterday we found out we were expecting and now we are only a few short months away.  It amazes me, and JM can hardly wait.

Baby Room:  We picked the Farm Babies theme.  The deer theme was very tempting and it was very hard to choose.  The deciding factor was that the Farm Babies theme will be SO easy to pick things out for and decorate.  So we chose the easy, vibrant, fun theme compared to quiet, subdued, and relaxing theme.  This Christmas break is going to be full of work on her room.  The carpet has to be taken out, walls painted, and then the floor can be put down.

Baby Movement:
This week I kept trying to get her to move for JM.  Everytime I would feel her move I would put his hand where I last felt it.  When his hand was there she would only move very lightly, so he didn't get to feel her move.  Maybe I only think I can feel it from the outside because I feel it from the inside too.  Oh well, all in good time.
