I took half the day off today so that I could pick up Samee Jo and take her to her 12 month appointment. I pulled into our driveway at 1:20 and we came inside to pick up a few things and then we left soon after. I wanted to have plenty of time because I thought she would fall asleep and I could just drive around for a little bit. This option was better than letting her sleep 30 minutes at home and waking her up.
This plan did NOT work. So when we got to Charleston and she was still babbling to me from the back seat, I decided to run into Wal-Mart. Samee Jo picked out a pillow pet. We have been wanting to get her one but just hadn't had the opportunity. We have square camo-pillows in the living room and she is always carrying them around and laying down on them. She picked the ladybug though it was a close contest between it and the white rabbit. I'm glad she kissed the ladybug b/c I'm sure the white rabbit would show dirt pretty badly.
We then headed over to our 3:10 doctor's appointment. I guess they were running behind pretty badly because Dr. Fearday didnt' come in until 4:10. I was SO mad. What are you supposed to do in such a tiny room with a little 1 year old that's running around and into everything. The plug-ins on the wall weren't covered and all were at eye level to her....grrrrr. I was very frustrated to say the least.
Samee weighted 19.4 pounds and was 29.5 inches long. Dr. Fearday said she was in the 25% for weight and 75% in height. I think she even called her "skinny".... man, oh man, do I hope that is a trait she keeps. I had discussed with Dr. Fearday about her acting like her ears or throat/mouth was bothering her. At church on Sunday she would make a frown and then touch her ears and throughout the week she looked like she was reaching for her tonsils but would also chew on her fingers. I wasn't sure if we were dealing with more teeth or something else. Her ears looked great but she had a small sore on her left tonsil. Then Dr. Fearday started looking her over for little bumps or rashes. I mentioned that she had had a little rash on her little butt cheeks but that it had been coming. Of course, when Dr. Fearday went to look it was back and pretty big. It isn't splotchy or bumps, it's just a raised area of skin and is read. Dr. Fearday thinks that she might be getting the Hand, Mouth, and Foot disease, but that more than likely there are two unrelated events. Let's all pray so!
When Dr. Fearday was looking in Samee's mouth she made the comment that her top teeth were just right under the skin. And she also said that since her bottom teeth came in so late that she will probably get the next few teeth right in a row or all at the same time. YIKES! That just doesn't sound like much fun.
After Dr. Fearday was done, a nurse came in a few minutes later to administer the shots. I'm so convinced that the Health Department is SO SO SO SO SO much better at giving shots. At the health department they have two nurses do all the shots at the same time and are so quick and fluid about it. The few times that we have had them done at the SBL Ped's office have been just the opposite. FRUSTRATED.
I think I may compose a letter to the department head expressing my frustrations. I LOVE Dr. Fearday and do NOT want to change, but I can't spend an hour and half in a doctor's office. What's wrong with calling their patients ahead if they are SO far behind?????
All in all, it was a great visit for Samee. Unfortunately lack of sleep and craziness in their schedule made it a little unenjoyable in that little room for the last 25 minutes. Samee did great though and crashed on the way home. When she came home she was pretty fussy but a dinner of cheesy noodles and peas cheered her up! They are her favorite!
