The last weekend in January was supposed to be JM and I's first night away. JM had a compnay outing in Indy. A chemical company had purchased hotel rooms, made reservations at Weber Grill, and then reservations for Crackers comedy club.
I had made arrangements for a parent to take 4 kiddo's to the MFE (Made for Excellence) conference in Collinsville, IN. The kids left early Friday morning and then would be back Saturday afternoon. I didn't really want to be away from my family and I would have had to take the kiddo's out of the conference early in order to come all the way back home to literally jump into JM's truck and go to Indy. All without seeing Samantha Jo. So, a parent took the kids and I planned on staying at the school to teach. Originally I was going to go down to the conference just on Friday, but then decided it was pointless.
Late Thursday night JM and I were hit with the nasty flu bug. He felt sick right after supper but not too bad and was a mess by midnight. I woke up and took a dose of Pepto in order to maybe ward off the illness. I then went out to sleep on the couch b/c I couldn't sleep through the "noises" coming from our bathroom. Men can really be loud when they puke. Ok... I originally was going to try to not use the words puke or vomit...but what kind of story would it be??
I hadn't been asleep for a few minutes out on the couch when it hit me. It was probably around 1 o'clock. After 5 hours of Hell, my alarm went off to go to school. There was no way. I called in and must have sounded pretty bad b/c Mr. Stricklin had to ask me to repeat myself a few times. I went back to our bed b/c I felt like the violent emptying was slowing down. JM was also not needing to be laying on the bathroom floor at that point either, so we both were laying in bed. We layed there and prayed that Samantha would sleep until 7, which is the time that Joy arrives to pick her up. Normally she is awake by 6:30. 6:30 rolled around, and I started the count down. 30 more minutes. Every time I looked at the clock, I did a mental countdown. At 6:50, Samantha woke up and started playing.. I sent up a greatfull THANK YOU. At that point. She played for a full TEN minutes and thankfully Joy arrived. I met Joy in the kitchen, explained that JM and I thought we were dying, and then went back to bed. I listened as Joy went in and picked up Samantha. She was super excited. Normally she crawls towards the door or climbs up my leg when she arrives out of excitement, so she was ecstatic when Joy came and got her out of bed!
Jim (JM's dad) and Marcy said they would take Samantha Friday night so that we could recover and try to keep Samantha from the flu bug. She did ok. She slept a good part of the middle of the night, or at least that was what I was told.
Friday, I literally stayed in bed all day. The worst part of it, besides the nonstop ejections of bodily fluids, was how bad our backs hurt. I have never broke my back, but I venture to say it was similar.
Saturday mornign we woke up feeling MUCH better. We were worn out and definitely not hungry, but felt "ok". We decided to head to Indy and try to have a good time. It turned out great. We definitely didn't indulge in all the free alcohol and it was a little dissapointing to not be able to eat all of the great food at Weber's grill, but it was a GREAT time. We ended the night at Krackers (Crackers?) comedy club. The two stand-up guys were so funny. We are definitely going to have to go to the comedy club again because we really enjoyed. it.
We thought that we would sleep really well in the hotel, but really didn't sleep that great. We were up early so we decided to just head home. I was ok with it because I reallly wanted to see MY BABY!
Samantha of course did great with Jim & Marcy. The second night she slept really well, which always makes me feel better.
Sunday afternoon we just relaxed at home and enjoyed being "just us". =)
