Well, today was the day - our first doctor's appointment! I was a little nervous all day, not because the "yearly women's appt" "stuff", but the sonogram. What was it going to look like? - Where we going to be able to see anything? - Will we see the heartbeat? - Will it move during the sonogram so we can everything we can possibly see?...and the questions just keep going...
So after the normal check up stuff with Dr. Nicole Wochner, she let me get Jim from the waiting room and we went to the sonogram room. She rolled the top band of my pants down and tucked a towel in like a bib - "to make sure the blue goo doesn't get on your clothes" Nicole assured me. I must have a had a weird look on my face. Then she squired the 'blue goo' on my lower abdomen...and it wasn't cold! It was shockingly warm - almost hot! Anyways.. in a few seconds she was pointing out all kinds of body parts. Jim kind of had a weird concentrating look on his face and all I could do was smile. She was able to look at different angles of the baby but it would always roll the opposite direction. We saw the heart beat and once she pointed out a few things and you got your bearings you could see little white lines for legs and arms. At one point "baby J" was stretching his/her legs out and pulling them back in. We could see this because Nicole had the view as if the baby was sitting on its butt and we were looking up at it. The baby moved its arms around a litle bit but mainly just moved from one side to the other. It was so NEAT! I would be cool to have one of those things at home, but I would never get anything done b/c I would always be looking! =)
When we were walking out Jim mentions that he about had a heart-attack at the beginning. Keep in mind it looked just like a peanut - two big ends with a little connecting piece. Jim said at first he didn't see the connecting piece and it looked like TWO blobs! Nicole assured him there was only one. Nicole also said that everything was perfect. She did mention that the baby was only the size of a 11 1/2 week old instead of 12 weeks which it would be tomorrow. Since we know exactly when conception was she just said the baby is a little small but perfectly normal. Jim now believes that I should be eating more.. much more. I think not!
So when we got back on the road I called mom's cell phone but she didn't answer so I called the school and had them page her if she was available. She was. When she said hello I said "We're having a PEANUT". But I think i said it a little too fast b/c she goes "oh my God" and I said "What? We just have pictures....." She goes "oh I thought you said 'we're having two children". hahaha - too funny. She said I about had to come down and scoop her up off the floor. I think twins would be neat..... kind of....
Now I can't wait to tell my friends (teachers) at school tonight at our Open House!!
Oh, and our due date is March 14/15th - but Nicole doubted that I would go before than at all, probably late if anything.
(Pictures to come soon.)
