Today was just like any typical Monday. Kids are crazy, we're all counting down to the end of the year, the seniors are counting down to our senior trip that starts on Wednesday, and I'm running arould like crazy trying to catch up and keep up.
About 10-15 minutes into 7th hour, our secretary called down and said "your husband is calling for you". So she patches the call and I hear Jim's voice, my father-in-law. I laughed and said "oh hey, they said it was my husband so I was shocked to hear your voice. I was afraid it was somethign bad." I don't think I completed that sentence b/c he interupted me with "Samee is on her way to the hospital. She spiked a really high fever and had a seizure. They called 9-1-1 and they are taking her down there.". I hung up the phone, grabbed the teacher from across the hall to watch my class, and I ran (literally) up to the office to tell them and on the way back I told the my friends, Alison, Becky, and Deb. I went back through my room to grab my keys and left. I didn't even look at the kids. Apparently, though, I scared the bejeezes out of them.
I sped to the hospital with my hazards on and surprisingly made it there before the ambulance. I'm really not sure how that happened, because I really truly didn't drive THAT fast. I filled out the necessary forms after standing at the desk waiting for a woman to get off the phone for what felt like 2 years. Just as we were finishing up insurance, they called me back. JM somehow beat the ambulance but must have went in the door with them. When I made it back to the room, they had her off the gurney and JM was holding her. My poor baby!
The nurses did their thing and then we waiting on the doctor. They gave her a Popsicle and some apple juice. We were able to talk with the paramedic and she was really nice to answer all of our questions. Her seizure only lasted 60 seconds or less and she never looked like she had lost oxygen flow. She was bright and rosy the whole time.
The doctor looked her over and explained to us that she probably had something viral/bacteria/fungal that has caused the high temperature, which triggered the febrile seizure. Sometimes febrile seizures make the child go stiff and only a specific part of their body will twitch, which is what Samee did. After a blood test, urine test, and chest x-ray, the diagnosis was viral pneumonia because there was no "pus" in her lungs. Before we did the blood test he told us that it was optional and it could rule out some big things that could be wrong. We figured that while we were there we might as well do the tests to figure out what is or isn't going on. I'm glad we did.
While we were waiting on the tests to come back, Samee slept HARD on the hospital bed for about 30 minutes or so. She really needed it because when she woke up she had a little bit of light back in her eyes and a little more color. She wasn't her normal chipper self, but pointing at things instead of just staring around the room.
The doctor suggested a follow-up appointment with our own doctor later this week for another x-ray to make sure her lungs were getting better. I called Dr. Fearday's office and they wanted to see her tomorrow.
So at 9:20 tomorrow, we will have her checked out again.
When we left the hospital she waved by at Aunt Dixie, Cousin Hildy, and Papa Jim. She even blew kisses and rubbed noses with Aunt Dixie.
My parents came up and just missed the hospital visit by 10 minutes. They picked up 2 pizzas and brought them over. Samee Jo slept on her Grandpa's lap for about 15 minutes and then played around here for about 45. Not her normal play, but walked around, pet the dogs, stacked some blocks. She waved by and blew kisses when they left. Boy, was I glad to see her acting a little more "her"!
